With Fall here, and colder temperatures already in some places, the season
is getting into full swing. Your yard and home need some things done
before winter is here. So, here is your Fall To-Do List:
Look around your house on the outside and inside. If you are done with
the garden hose, store it away. Check around your foundation. Look for
cracks and water damage. The slope away from the foundation needs to
be there so water does not do any damage.
Clean out those gutters. Water rot can ruin your roof and wood eaves real
quick. Instead of cleaning gutters, how about replacing them with a non-
clogging gutter? If not, clean your gutters!
You can probably leave the leaves on your lawn, but remove them from
from places where water can pool. Like around the foundation of your
house. You can put some of the leaves as mulch around bushes and shrubs.
Any season can get windy, but it seems that a cold wind does more damage,
maybe. You really need to trim your trees and remove dead branches.
Prevention here is worth a pound of cure. Falling tree limbs can damage
property, buildings, and power lines.
Speaking of power lines, you really need to check your power generator
Test it and make sure it's ready to go. If you don't have one, get one!Learn about generator safety here.
You also need to do annual winterizing tasks like storm windows, replace caulking, etc.
Make sure your furnace and fireplace are clean and ready as well.
Do not wait until cold, harsh weather to find out you have a problem.
